ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The restaurant industry is ever-changing with restaurants opening, closing, relocating, or just doing their thing. Here’s a recap of the latest Capital Region restaurant news, February 11 through 16.
Saratoga Chowderfest winners announced
The 25th annual Saratoga Chowderfest was held on Saturday, February 10. The festival had 85 vendors with 10 first-time participants, 116,383 bowls of chowder served, and over 40,000 event attendees.
Gloversville’s Food Truck Fridays schedule released
Gloversville’s Food Truck Fridays are returning for 2024. The bi-weekly events will be at Castiglione Park on North Main Street starting May 31.
Bountiful Bread closing Schenectady café location
Bountiful Bread, located at 108 State Street in Schenectady, is closing its doors. The café’s last day is Friday, February 16.
McGeary’s Irish Pub in Albany up for sale
McGeary’s Irish Pub, located at 4 Clinton Square in Albany, has been listed for sale. Owner Tess Collins said the pub is staying open while the property is on the market.
Shorty’s in Amsterdam being revived by new owners
Shorty’s Southside Tavern, located at 51 Broad Street in Amsterdam, closed in September 2023. Now, a husband and wife duo are reopening the tavern.
Two restaurants swapping spaces in Saratoga County
Two restaurants in Saratoga County are moving into each other’s previous locations. Sara’s Kitchen and Whole Harvest are swapping spots between the Wilton Mall and Broadway in Saratoga Springs.
Two downtown Saratoga Springs restaurants seized by NYS
Two restaurants in downtown Saratoga Springs have been seized by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. The District at 43 Phila and Nashville of Saratoga are both closed due to the seizure.
New cafe, music venue, art gallery opens in Troy
MoJo’s Cafe & Gallery in Troy officially opened on Sunday, February 4. The combination cafe, music venue, and art gallery is located in the former Superior Merchandise space at 147 4th Street.
Au Bon Pain closes in the Empire State Plaza
Au Bon Pain, a bakery and café chain, has closed its Empire State Plaza location. The business’s last day was February 9.
PDT Catering moving operations to Malta
PDT Catering is moving its operations to the former Glory Dayz space at 2961 Route 9 in Malta. Founder and chef Adam Foti had previously been operating PDT Catering out of the Franklin Terrace Ballroom in Troy.
Steve’s Place in Glens Falls set to close
Christine Vamvalis-Haley has owned Steve’s Place, located at 194 Broad Street in Glens Falls, for 45 years. Now, she’s closing the diner as she plans to retire.
New Italian restaurant set to open in Clifton Park
Sofia’s of Clifton Park is set to open in the former Painted Lemon space at 54 Clifton Country Road. According to the Sofia’s of Clifton Park Facebook page, the restaurant will be serving authentic Italian food.
