Gas prices on the rise across Austin region, country

0

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Prices are rising at the pump and drivers across the country, state, and metro area are feeling it.

AAA said over the last week, the average price of a gallon of regular gas rose eight cents nationally and nine cents statewide as well as in the Austin-San Marcos metro area.

According to a Feb. 15 AAA press release, one factor in the price rise is the Feb. 1 shutdown at the BP-Whiting refinery in Indiana.

The refinery is the biggest in the Midwest and the sixth largest nationally, processing about 440,000 barrels of crude oil daily, making a variety of liquid fuels and asphalt.

AAA said the shutdown has caused prices throughout the Midwest to climb, pushing the national average higher as well.

The current price of a gallon of regular in Austin-San Marcos is $2.95.

The current price of a gallon of regular in Texas is $2.91.

The current price of a gallon of regular in the United States is $3.28.
