Video renderings of Kensington Project released

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The New York State Department of Transportation has released video renderings on what the Kensington Expressway project will look like once complete.

The $1 billion project, which was given the "green light" by the federal government as announced by Gov. Kathy Hochul, will create a six-lane tunnel on Rt. 33 for a stretch of just over three-quarters of a mile from Dodge Street, in the area of the Buffalo Science Museum, to Sidney Street and planting green space on top of the tunnel.

The video, courtesy of the DOT, offers an immersive view of what the project will look like across the Buffalo area.

Construction on the project is expected to begin by the end of 2024 and is expected to complete in 2028.

Local roads, sidewalks, curbs and signage will also be repaired as part of the project.

Community members previously expressed concerns over potential dangers the project could cause to health and the environment.
