2nd woman dies after fire at Long Island senior apartment complex: police
PLAINVIEW, N.Y. (PIX11) – Two women were killed in a fire at a senior living apartment complex on Long Island Sunday, police said.
The fire happened at a senior living apartment complex at 107 Central Park Road in Plainview around 5 a.m., according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Fire responders saw smoke and flames coming from the second-floor roof, authorities said.
Lynne Citron, 74, and Theresa Casale, 84, were identified as the two victims who died. Other victims were treated for smoke inhalation, police said.
A resident of the apartment complex said neighbors were going door to door warning their neighbors after the fire broke out. Firefighters and officers helped evacuate other residents, authorities said.
"We mourn the lives of those who passed away and we pray for those injured and displaced by the fire. What occurred on Sunday is unimaginable and our heart breaks for the families impacted by this tragedy," Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino said in a statement. "The Town will continue to assist the Housing Authority with resources needed to help those who lost their homes."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
