Absolutely this. If you sing it slow you'll hit the high notes at the end and avoid that awful shouted "drea-min-of" A discordant racket.
I think there's a merit in having it as a sort of chant-like song - with the slow version when the occasion needs more gravitas. To give it even more emphasis when required.
