ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- The family of a 2022 double homicide victim reacts as one of the suspects in the case is released from jail.

In Nov. 2022, Opelousas police responded to multiple calls of gun shots at the 1200 block of Ina Clare Dr. When they arrived at the scene, officers discovered two dead women in a red car riddled with bullet holes.

The women were identified as Samijah Leday and Alexie Joubert. In 2023 two men were arrested in connection to the murders, 18-year-old Sadavion George and 30-year-old Casey Rubin. Rubin was arrested in Dec. 2023 for his connection to the shooting. He has since been released from jail, sparking concerns from the families of the victims.

Community activist, Tyrone Glover, and grandfather of Alexie Joubert says he and his family are tired of reliving the shooting and hope justice can prevail.

"This every time something is brought up about this, it is brand new again. To be the man that I am, I have to forgive. And let the wheels of justice do what they want to do," said Glover.

According to the St. Landry Parish District Attorney's Office, the investigation into the shooting is "very complicated" and is not finalized yet, so the department made the decision to dismiss the charges against Rubin with right to reinstitute pending further investigation. Glover calls for closure for everyone involved.

"I feel bad all the way around. For the young men who was arrested, I feel bad. For the other family, I feel bad. For my own family, I feel bad. If these young men are not the ones, why disrupt their lives," Glover explained.

Alisa Gothreaux with the district attorney's office says the decision was made to prevent any sort of issues that can arise as the investigation continues.

"Rather than compromise anything by having some sort of court hearing or putting out any kind of evidence," said Gothreaux. "It's just, the case is not in proper posture to do that kind of thing because there is more that needs to be done. Rather than disclosing strategy and process, a decision was made to withdraw the charges against Casey Rubin only."

According to Gothreaux, 18-year-old Sadavion George, who was the first arrested in Nov.2023 for his connection to this shooting, is still being held in the parish jail for an indictment on a second-degree murder charge unrelated to this case.
