CapMetro's McKalla Station opens just in time to give free rides to Q2 stadium
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- CapMetro's McKalla Station is opening in just enough time to give free rides to Q2 stadium as Austin FC kicks off its first home match of the 2024 season on Saturday, Austin FC confirmed in a news release Monday.
The station will officially open at 10 a.m. Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the release said.
According to Austin FC, the station is directly adjacent to Q2 Stadium. Additionally, it is directly connected to the stadium. To celebrate the opening of the station, CapMetro Rail customers can enjoy those free fan-fare rides on Saturday.
This comes after CapMetro leaders said Kramer Station was poised to close, especially with McKalla Station serving as a direct and higher-frequency service provider.
“This transformational addition to our neighborhood and matchday experience is the result of remarkable collaboration and commitment from our partners at City of Austin, CapMetro, Project Connect, and Austin Transit Partnership,” said Austin FC President Andy Loughnane in the release. “Having Q2 Stadium be directly accessible via easy-to-use, environmentally friendly public transportation is a gamechanger for our club, our fans, and our community.”
