Man Utd 'already lined up' to move for €50m striker wanted by Chelsea - report
Manchester United are already lined up to move for Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee this summer, according to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (page 3).
The Red Devils are expected to sign a back-up striker during the next transfer window with Anthony Martial likely to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Zirkzee’s name has been mentioned by several outlets and Gazzetta dello Sport claim that United are ‘already lined up’ to make a summer approach to sign him.
The Red Devils are not alone in the pursuit with AC Milan, Chelsea and Barcelona also interested.
United may not overspend on a back-up striker
There was some criticism towards Rasmus Hojlund during the first half of the season, but the Dane has answered his critics in stunning fashion over recent months.
The 21-year-old only scored in the Champions League (five times) until Christmas, but he has since netted a stunning tally of eight goals from his next eight appearances.
United have finally found their perfect striker up front. It is left to be seen whether the club would be willing to spend big on a back-up to Hojlund this summer.
Zirkzee has had a good season at Bologna with 10 goals and six assists thus far. He has caught the eye with his hold-up and link-up play as well as his dribbling skills.
He would be a solid acquisition for the Red Devils, but it has been reported elsewhere that Bologna are looking for €50-60 million to part ways with the Dutchman.
With funds likely to be limited due to Financial Fair Play, United could be tempted to pursue a cut-effective option such as Serhou Guirassy in the summer.
The Guinean star was very close to joining United for his €17.5m release clause in January. A deal did not materialise in the end as United were close to FFP limits.
