The moment woman realises she shouldn’t have listened to TikTok when cleaning hoover filter despite ‘satisfying’ results
A WOMAN has shared a major fail after attempting to clean her hoover filter went horribly wrong.
Just like our floors and carpets, hoovers, too, need cleaning every now and then to ensure they work properly – which is why one woman, Kiraa, decided to get rid of all the dust and dirt inside the filter.
However, things didn’t quite go to plan and her filter ended up ”bloated”, as she took to TikTok to upload the fail.
Kiraa, 23, first started by removing the filter from the cleaning appliance before chucking in a scoop of laundry whitener inside the hole.
To make the grim filter extra clean and sparkly, she then went in with a generous amount of Fabulosa Multi-Purpose Disinfectant and watched the mixture bubble up.
Once done, Kiraa, who posts under the username @cleanwith_kiraa, completed the cleaning process with pouring boiling water directly from the kettle – and this is where things went awfully wrong.
Although at first, it all looked promising and ”satisfying” – and Kiraa couldn’t even believe the amount of dirt that had come out – she quickly realised the hot water had been a grave error.
”It was at this point I knew I messed up,” she said in the video, before revealing what the filter looked like now.
”Oh dear, just look at how bloated it’s gone,” the cleaning whizz was horrified before making yet another unpleasant discovery.
Upon inspecting the hoover filter properly, the 23-year-old noticed that not only had it ballooned up a couple of times its normal size, the plastic inside had also melted.
Despite leaving the filter to dry in the kitchen overnight, it remained ”misshapen” and the fabric material appeared to be falling apart in some places.
Advising fellow cleaning lovers to steer clear from this hack, Kiraa warned in the clip: ”Deffo don’t do this.
”I’m so stupid sometimes,” she chuckled in the caption.
Since being posted on the platform, where Kiraa’s won close to a whopping 203k followers, the video’s amassed almost 490k views.
Dozens of people raced to comments where they explained what had lead to the disaster, in their opinion.
One, for instance, thought: ”Warm water, not boiling hot.”
Someone else chimed in: ”Most hoovers say cool water and no products.”
A third shared their cleaning routine: You just brush it. I clean mine like that.
”Take a toothbrush put powder then scrub it gently. Just to take the dirt out.”
”You’re just supposed to rinse under cold running tap water,” someone else said.
How to clean hoover filter
According to experts at Hoover Service, you should remove and clean the filter once a month.
”For best results wash the filter in warm water and allow to dry thoroughly before putting it all back together.”
However, the pros advise to replace the filters once a year to ensure you get the best results.
