Strictly legend Arlene Phillips fights back tears on Morning Live recalling final conversation with late Robin Windsor

DAME Arlene Phillips was left fighting back tears as she recalled fond memories as well as her final conversation with the late robin Windsor.

Robin’s death was confirmed on Tuesday morning when it was revealed that he had passed away at the age of 44.

Former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene, 80, spoke candidly on BBC Morning Live about his life and legacy as she paid tribute to the pro dancer.

She opened up on their friendship and close bond and revealed that in their final conversation, she spoke with Robin abut his aspirations to break into musical theatre choreography.

Speaking about her friend, the star said: “He was a guy that could do everything.”

Arlene appeared choked up as she said: “This is a really sad moment for him to lose everyhing that he had in life.

“His ambition, which he came to me for, was to get into musical theatre choreography and he reached out to me, not too long ago, and I wish… You look back and you go, ‘Why didn’t I say you could do this right now’.

“There is much, much sadness.”

Glassy-eyed and holding back tears, Arlene was re-assured by show host Gaby Roslin who begged the star to not “beat herself up”.

During the chat, she also praised the dancer for his excellent figure when “in hold” and affirmed his dancing partnership with Emmerdale star Lisa Riley as one of the best on the BBC contest.

Robin first appeared on the BBC series with Patsy Kensit in 2010, reaching week nine of the competition, before being eliminated at the same stage with EastEnders legend Anita Dobson two years later.

He went on to reach week five with Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden in 2013.

He also performed with newsreader Susanna Reid in a special episode for Children In Need in 2011 and Great British Bake Off host Alison Hammond in the 2015 Christmas special.

The news was confirmed by Sisco Entertainment, which represented him in various areas of theatre and corporate entertainment.

A statement said: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic passing of our beloved friend, Robin Windsor.

“Robin’s presence in Come What May was more than just a performance; it was an embodiment of passion, grace, and sheer talent.

“His extraordinary ability to express emotion through movement captivated audiences, leaving them spellbound with every step.

“Beyond his impeccable dancing, Robin’s vibrant spirit lit up the room, infusing rehearsals and performances with infectious energy and warmth. His laughter was contagious, his kindness boundless.

“His friendship was a gift cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Robin, you will be deeply missed.

“Though Come What May will continue without you, your legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to share in your light.”
