‘I’m out!’ rage The Way viewers as they switch off Michael Sheen’s ‘weird and depressing’ new BBC drama
MICHAEL Sheen’s new drama The Way had viewers talking last night – with some left fuming and switching off.
The bold three-part series boasts a stellar cast as it stars James Graham and Adam Curtis.
During the first episode viewers were introduced to a family called the Driscolls.
They were forced to flee their hometown and leave behind their old lives.
However, the gripping and weird series, which was co-created by Michael and James, got viewers talking.
For some, The Way was ‘too weird’ for a Monday evening slot and viewers switched off.
However, other Beeb fans were gripped and couldn’t get enough of the drama.
Taking to social media, one said: “Nah… have given up on #TheWay. Too depressing. Too weird.”
A second wrote: : “Too weird for 9pm on a Monday. I’m out #TheWay.”
“Did you watch The Way on bbc1? Oof enigmatic mystical and weird and very powerful. Does make you wonder just exactly what would tip us over to have a revolution? #TheWay,” said a third.
While a fourth commented: “Very much enjoying #TheWay’s wyrd blend of Welsh folk horror and Adam Curtis’s hauntological use of archive clips. Feels like a throwback to the kind of Weird political drama that the BBC used to make with Penda’s Fen or The Stone Tapes.”
An official synopsis for The Way reads: “Fleeing unrest, the Driscolls are forced to escape the country they’ve always called home and the certainties of their old lives. Will they be overwhelmed by their memories of the past, or will they lay their ghosts to rest and take the risk of an unknown future?
“With wit and powerful emotion, The Way taps into the chaos of today’s world through the fictional story of an ordinary family caught up in an extraordinary chain of events.”
The Way airs Mondays at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
