I make myself late for the school run to avoid ‘small talk’ with ‘gossipy mums’ – it’s so bad I’d consider homeschooling
A WOMAN has revealed that she can’t stand ‘small talk’ with ‘gossipy mums’ at the school gate, so will purposely be late to get her child from school.
Kara, a mother from South London, explained that she finds talking to the school mums ‘stressful’, and as a result, ‘can’t be bothered’ to engage with them.
The young woman explained that typically she collects her child three minutes later than the finish time, and is often the last parent to walk in, in an attempt to avoid even saying ‘hello’ to the other mums.
Posting on social media, Kara claimed: “School run mums stress me out.”
She then opened up about her dislike for school mums, as she explained: “I will purposely make myself late for the school run just to avoid any type of small talk with these gossipy mums.
“I can’t be bothered with it, so just leave me, leave me alone. Pretend you can’t see me.”
Kara then revealed: “I’ll get here at about 3:10pm everyday. My kids finish at 3:30pm – I get here early for parking, but already, at about 3:15pm, they [mums] all start piling outside the gate, talking, talking.
“So it’s not like I can quickly go inside, grab my kid, as soon as they come out and then go, because they’re there trying to say, ‘hi, hi, hi.’

“I’ll purposely go in at around 3:33pm, about three minutes late, to get my child.
“You know those little smiles? That’s what you get out of me at the school run.
“There’s two mums that I will say hello to and I actually like them, but other than that, no. And that’s because I know them from outside the school.”
Kara later explained that she would rather the other parents think she is rude, then force herself to have conversations.
She admitted: “Maybe I’m a bit harsh but some of these mums just want to talk about nothing.
“Sometimes they just wanna say hello and I don’t even wanna do that.
“I would rather them think I’m rude than me be unhappy having forced conversations I don’t want to have.
“I am either the first to walk in or I’m walking in as the other mums are walking out.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @lifeofmrsabstract, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 46,500 views.
Parents unite
Many social media users agreed with Kara and shared their thoughts on ‘school run mums’.
One person said: “They are like a different breed of mums.”
Another added: “I hate school run mums.”
A third commented: “100% girl! I’m the same.”
At the same time, someone else claimed: “One reason why I’d never have another child again.”
In response, Kara penned: “I considered homeschooling if I ever do.”
Meanwhile, someone else advised: “Lol pretend you’re on the phone.”
To this, Kara replied: “I do sometimes.”
Despite this, one woman wrote: “They are only being polite.”
But to this, Kara clapped back and claimed: “Fake polite you mean. Then you be polite back and everyday creeps in more and more – I’d rather pass on it.”
