Susanna Reid shocked as Good Morning Britain is forced to apologise after Ed Balls swears live on air
SUSANNA Reid was taken by surprise this morning as GMB co-host Ed Balls swore live on air.
The former politician was quick to apologise for his ill-judged blunder that came as the duo were introducing guest Joe Lycett, with the comedian on the show to discuss his crusade against sewage dumping water companies.
Susanna said: “Still to come, he took on David Beckham and Liz Truss. Now, Joe Lycett has set his sights on sewage, he’s here next to tell us why he’s wading in.”
Ed then said: “To the s**t.”
He continued: “You’re watching Good Morning Britain, oh sorry I apologise, I shouldn’t have said that! I apologise.”
Joe burst out laughing in the green room and there was giggling in the studio after his unexpectedly blunt phrasing.
Viewers at home were mixed about the gaffe with some amused and others annoyed.
One person said on X: “ED BALLS SAYING ‘S**T’ YOU NAUGHTY BOY.”
Another wrote: “Has @edballs not got the ability to not just randomly swear on live TV?”
When the programme returned after the break, Ed said: “Raw sewage, spewing into our seas, raw sewage, I’m not going to say anything more than that. Apologise for my slip earlier!”
It was an emotional morning in the GMB studio after the death of Strictly Come Dancing star Robin Windsor.
The dancer partnered Susanna on a Children in Need special and the pair were friends.
She was unable to break the news as it came into the studio while she was broadcasting.
Instead, Ed read out an announcement from dance show Burn the Floor.
It read: “A BTF journeyman he danced with us for twenty years – including Broadway, The West End and all our crazy adventures around the world.
“His stunning image attached with Jessica Raffa defined our company, colourful, extreme and sensual.
“His talent, attitude, energy and personality helped create the Burn the Floor stage reputation.
“He leaves a void in our hearts that will never be filled, yet our wonderful memories will stay forever.”
After the tribute, a shaken Susanna, who danced with Robin in the 2011 Children In Need special, said: “Robin was larger than life and I fell in love with him and fell in love with dancing when I danced with him back then. He was an absolutely remarkable dancer, incredibly strong, so creative, he was just so enthusiastic about dancing. I just adored him.
“He was the most incredible personality. As soon as I danced with him there was something very special about him.”
After the break, she continued: “I have wonderful memories of you, Robin. He was very sensual, wonderfully exuberant. Full of strength and creativity. He made me fall in love with dancing. He was a fabulous, phenomenal personality.”
