T20 World Cup: Mitchell Marsh announces the top batting order for Australia, Steve Smith excluded
The Australian Captain Mitchell Marsh confirmed his position at number three, setting the tone for Australia’s New Zealand tour. The opening match will take place at Wellington’s Sky Stadium. With Glenn Maxwell’s explosive century at number 4 against West Indies and Tim David’s consistent performance at number 6 in the T20I series, Australia’s batting lineup seems to be completely settled as the T20 World Cup nears in Jun.
But, uncertainty looms over Steve Smith’s role amidst Australia’s well-established batting lineup. David Warner and Travis Head are expected to open in the T20 World Cup, leaving the team management with the task of balancing the lineup and utilizing batting resources effectively. Smith’s potential inclusion adds an intriguing dimension as Australia prepares for the prestigious T20 event.
“There will be certain guys that probably bat in different positions than they have done in the past, but ultimately we’re here to win the series. I’ve batted three for the last 18 months, so I’ll be there to start with. And obviously Heady and Davey Warner have been amazing for us over the last period of time, so I daresay that will be the top three,” Marsh said as quoted by cricket.com.au.
