Rachael Blackmore’s Serial Winners Fund hits £170,000 after flurry of winners for record-breaking jockey
RACHAEL BLACKMORE’S Serial Winners Fund has rocketed to £170,000 after the record-breaking jockey recorded a flurry of recent winners.
The Grand National legend has teamed up with Betfair – and between them they are looking to raise £250,000 for the Injured Jockeys Fund and Irish Injured Jockeys.
Blackmore took another big leap towards that total last weekend.
She banged in two winners, with Lantry Lady an easy victor of a 2m Grade 3 hurdle race at Gowran Park on Saturday.
And she was past the post first on Senior Chief at Punchestown on Sunday.
The Henry de Bromhead-trained runner was sent off 2-9 but hit 35-1 in-running.
It looked for all the world like 28-1 roughie Duffle Coat was going to get the better of the big odds-on shot.
But Blackmore got him going just in time to win by half a length in a 2m7 beginners’ chase on heavy.
It means the charitable fund is now a few steps closer to reaching its target.
The goal is to hit £250,000 by the time the Grand National rolls back round in April.
The Injured Jockeys Fund has helped more than 1,000 jockeys and their families since 1964, distributing more than £20 million.
Betfair’s donation will help fund continue their great work.
Betfair ambassador Blackmore said: “This is a very generous initiative from Betfair and one that I am excited to be a part of over the coming season.
“The work of IIJ and IJF is vital in providing support services for jockeys past and present.
“It’s great to have Betfair supporting not only me, but two organisations that are so important to us as jockeys.”
Betfair will add an extra £5,000 for every winner she rides.
And with a typically strong book of rides for master trainer de Bromhead at the upcoming Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals, let’s hope even more gets added to the pot.
