‘What do our taxes pay for?’ cries baffled woman as cops tell HER to pick up stolen £30k Lexus after she tracked it down

A WOMAN who tracked down her £30,000 Lexus after it was stolen after cops told her to pick it up asked “what do our taxes pay for.”

Alexandra Vlad used an app to track down her Lexus UX in Hackney after it was stolen from the drive of her home in Newham, East London.

Ms Vlad claims that when she called police to tell them the stolen car was in Hackney, they told her to go and collect the car herself.

She said that cops advised her not to approach the car if anyone was in it, and to alert them when she was there.

Ms Vlad feels that the police advice put her in a situation that was “unsafe.”

Speaking to the Mail the corporate finance worker said: “I was more shaken by the experience of dealing with the police than the car being stolen itself.

“I told them what happened, and that I could see the last location of the engine.

“They told me they wouldn’t be there for at least an hour. It was a dodgy part of Hackney. I felt unsafe.”

Ms Vlad, originally from Romania, explained how she was not sure what to do when she found her car parked up in side street.

She claimed police advised her to go to a garage, which she thought was “unhelpful.”

She added: “I was baffled. You pay taxes to pay for police – just to leave it to us to sort out. What are we even paying for ?”

The Metropolitan Police said: “On Tuesday, 6 February we received a report that a car had been stolen from outside a house in E13.

“The owner later contacted us to say she had traced the car and collected it. Enquiries continue.”
