‘It’s like Nazi Germany,’ says dad after baby’s birth certificate has birthplace Israel ‘scribbled out’ sparking probe
A DAD has been left raging after his baby’s birth certificate had Israel “scribbled out” as a place of birth – sparking a Home Office probe.
Israel, 32, sent the document off two weeks ago to apply for his five-month-old daughter Ronnie’s first passport.
But secretary wife Dorin, 29, opened the letter at their home in Edgware, north London, on Monday, to find it had been vandalised.
Civil engineer company director Israel, who did not want to give his surname, told The Sun: “I was shocked and extremely angry to see it had been torn and my place of birth, Israel, erased.
“My daughter Ronnie is not quite six months old yet she has already become the victim of anti-semitism and discrimination due to where her father was born.
“Thankfully she is not old enough to understand it – but she and we as a family should not have to suffer from it.
“It took me back to the 1930’s when Jewish documents were automatically assigned and checked in Nazi Germany.
“But this is sadly a sign of the times we currently live in. Jews are scared to go out on the streets of London due to rising abuse.
“What makes this all the more appalling is it’s someone from within the system. This person will have all our details which is very worrying.
“The Home Office is responsible for our safety. They have damaged our property which I entrusted to them.
“I want them to find out who did this and make sure they are properly dealt with. They should never be allowed to work in a public position ever again with these views born out of pure hatred.”
Dad-of-three Israel, who also has Adiel, eight, and five-year-old Ella, alerted the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA), which is supporting the family and urging the Home Office to investigate.
A spokesperson for the group said: “This is completely unacceptable. When sending off a passport application to the Home Office, the last thing one should ever expect is to have their child’s birthday certificate returned, torn, with the parent’s place of birth scribbled out, just because it is the Jewish state.
“We are assisting the parents, who are understandably very concerned about this incident. We are also asking the Home Office to investigate how this happened.
“The Home Office has responsibility for law enforcement and the security of the Jewish community and the wider public. Confidence in the authorities among British Jews is at painfully low levels and must be restored.”
Home Secretary James Cleverly said: “I have asked my officials to investigate this urgently and will see that appropriate action is taken.”
The Home Office is understood to now be investigating the
Replying to a photo of the document posted on X by the CAA, Home Secretary James Cleverly said: “I have asked my officials to investigate this urgently and will see that appropriate action is taken.”
The Home Office was contacted for comment and directed The Sun to Mr Cleverly’s post.
