‘Your cutouts are inappropriate,’ wedding guest’s dress is ripped apart & people think she wants to ‘upstage the bride’
A WEDDING guest has been left speechless after the dress she planned to wear was trashed by style enthusiasts.
She shared snaps of a model wearing the ankle-length dress in the hopes of getting approval from fashionistas.
Posting under the name u/vistadellinnea on Reddit’s Wedding Attire Approval forum, she asked members to share their opinions.
“Is this dress inappropriate for a wedding?” she wrote.
“The dress code is cocktail formal and it’s a July wedding in central California.
“Is this too white?”
She shared two photos taken from the Petal and Pup website of a model wearing a figure-hugging gold dress.
It cost $50 and was available in sizes ranging from 4 to 16 before it sold out.
The product description said, “Featuring a halter neckline that ties close and front cut out under bust, you will be sure to make an entrance.
“The stretch material gives you a comfortable fit that is perfect for any occasion.
“If you are in between sizes, we do suggest selecting the size down due to the stretch in this fabrication.”
The dress had hundreds of reviews from satisfied customers and a 4.5-star rating.
The wedding guest didn’t say how she planned to style the look, while the model teamed the dress with matching sandals and wore her hair in a low ponytail.
An overwhelming majority of responses to the thread unexpectedly ripped into the woman.
She was accused of trying to steal the limelight at the wedding with her outfit choice.
“Too close to white, and very showy,” one person wrote. “This is more cute day and drinks with the girls.”
“The bottom looks like a towel tied around her waist,” another said.
“This is not cocktail or formal attire (idk [I don’t know] what ‘cocktail formal’ means, but this doesn’t work for either dress code).
“And it’s too close to white to boot.”
“At least change the color,” a third chimed in.
“Otherwise, you may find a picture of yourself on Reddit posted by the bride complaining about how her friend has the nerve to wear a color too close to white, trying to upstage her.”
“I just don’t think cutouts are appropriate for weddings, but I’m a bit more old-fashioned than my peers,” another added.
“It’s also a bit light. Definitely a ‘know your crowd’ situation.”
Amid the wave of critical comments was one person who tried to reassure the guest that she should go ahead with wearing the dress.
“I love this dress!” they said.
“I’m not sure it’s formal enough, but considering the location I think could maybe work.
“It’s not white, but I agree that you should find out what the wedding party is wearing.
“If they’re in darker colors I think you’d be fine. But, if they’re in pastels or lighter shades, I’d steer towards another color, at least.”
