Flags to fly at half-staff to honor victims of Kansas City Chiefs Parade shooting

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is directing flags to be flown at half-staff this weekend out of respect for those who were injured or killed in the Kansas City Chiefs Parade shooting.

Kelly's order came in a press release from the Office of the Governor on Tuesday, Feb. 20. In it, Kelly orders flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024.

This is being done to honor the memory of Elizabeth "Lisa" Lopez-Galvan who lost her life during the shooting. It's also being done to honor the 22 other shooting victims injured during the incident on Feb. 14, 2024.

“This senseless violence turned a day that should have been filled with joyous celebration into a tragedy,” Kelly said. “Kansans and the entire Kansas City community are mourning the loss of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a DJ and mother of two from Shawnee. I’m grieving for her family and for all the victims and their loved ones.”

Two juveniles have been charged in connection to the shooting. Lopez-Galvan was a DJ in the Kansas City area who was attending the parade alongside her husband and son when the shooting occurred, according to a report from The Associated Press.
