Small plane lands on Southern State Parkway in Suffolk County
LINDENHURST, N.Y. (PIX11) – A small plane crashed on the Southern State Parkway in Suffolk County on Tuesday, video from AIR11 shows.
A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration told PIX11 News a single-engine Piper PA-28 landed on the Southern State Parkway after the pilot reported engine failure while approaching nearby Republic Airport around 11:40 a.m.
The plane crashed near the ramp for Exit 33 on the Southern State Parkway in North Lindenhurst, video from AIR11 shows.
Two people were on the plane, per the FAA. It was not immediately clear if there were any injuries.
Witness Greg Feller told PIX11 News he was heading in the opposite direction of where the plane landed and traffic was backed up on both sides of the parkway. He posted a video of the scene, including multiple fire trucks and police vehicles, on X.
The FAA will investigate the crash.
A small plane crashed last March after taking off from Republic Airport. One person was killed and two were critically injured, according to authorities. Both crashes involved the same type of plane, according to the FAA.
