Clark County Sheriff's Office: 5 deputies involved in shooting of man during welfare check
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A welfare check in Brush Prairie led to a shooting involving five Clark County deputies early Tuesday morning after officials said a man may have had a gun.
Deputies arrived at 12500 Northeast 152nd Avenue just after midnight when a woman called 911 saying “she was concerned for her mother’s safety,” according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say “it appeared the woman’s mother may have been held against her will by a male family member,” who eventually “produced what appeared to be a firearm.”
The man did not survive the shooting. The female victim was taken to the hospital for an evaluation, and officials have yet to give an update on her progress.
The five deputies have been placed on leave, as is standard. The incident is now under investigation by the Vancouver Police Department.
