Florida man arrested in connection to fatal Amsterdam crash

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Florida man accused of killing a woman during a 2022 car crash in Amsterdam turned himself in.

On October 15, 2022, 30-year-old Evelyn Morales, of Amsterdam, was killed in a crash on Northampton Road near Wilkes Avenue. A final crash report from New York State Police was provided to the Amsterdam Police Department in January 2024, which led to an arrest warrant for Lisandro Garcia, 42, of Kissimmee, Florida. Garcia lived in Amsterdam at the time of the crash.

He turned himself in on Valentine's Day and was arraigned on several charges, including manslaughter in the second degree, assault in the second degree, driving while ability impaired (drugs), aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, and several traffic violations.

He is being held in the Montgomery County Jail without bail.
