Inside the Investigations: TxTag surprise billing law

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Each week the in-depth reporting from the KXAN Investigates team will get a spotlight on KXAN Live.
A conversation will happen Wednesday morning with investigative reporter Kelly Wiley and KXAN Live anchor Will DuPree to break down one of this week’s top stories. People can watch the live stream starting at about 9:30 a.m. in this story and on the KXAN News Facebook page.
The story they’re talking about this week is:
- Months after a series of KXAN investigations into TxTag helped drive a new state law, complaints about the Texas toll system persist. More than two dozen TxTag customers reached out to KXAN — the majority after a new state law went into effect on Sept. 1 aimed at stopping surprise toll bills — still complaining about problems with auto pay, billing and sky-high surprise statements that, in one case, totaled $809. Those concerns led KXAN's Matt Grant and Dalton Huey to investigate whether the new law is working and learn one lawmaker is looking at a new fix.
Join Kelly Wiley and Will DuPree every Wednesday morning for a live recap of the latest headlines and in-depth reporting from the KXAN Investigates team.
