I’m convinced my best friend is stealing from me – she’s a 33-year-old mum, it’s embarrassing
A WOMAN has been left gutted after realising her best friend of 20 years has been stealing from her.
Writing in to the Girls Overheard podcast, the woman said her belongings have “went missing over the years”.
But the situation has come to a head after she discovered an expensive gym outfit had vanished from her clothes airer.
Podcast host Eilidh Wells was tasked with reading out the anonymous message on the show.
It read: “I have a strong suspicion that my best friend is stealing from me
“So let’s call her Emma, 33. We’ve been friends since our teens and looking back there’s been a few question marks over the years as things have went missing but I’ve never had any proof.
“A few years ago after Christmas I had a voucher for a fancy restaurant that went missing not long after she had visited mine.
“I never found it but a few months later in a big group setting I heard her tell a mutual friend that she’d taken her mum for a meal there.
“It’s a really expensive place, we talk all the time, and she’d never mentioned this.
“I knew she hadn’t been, because she told me when I got the voucher, so if she’d went there since, why would she never mention it to me?
“I never had proof and didn’t want to accuse her so let it lie.”
“Recently, I lost a pair of expensive leggings. Lulu Lemon, if you know, you know, and the matching top”, the message continued.
“Emma was here the last time I saw them and I’m almost certain they were drying on the clothes horse when she was round.
“Emma was on a weekend away recently and looking through her stories I can see a tiny part of her leg and I’m certain it’s my leggings she’s wearing.
“No other pics of her that day. They’re a bold colour and I know she’s got nothing like that.
“She obviously won’t wear them around me. Should I say something? She’s 33 with kids, so it’s embarrassing for her but I can’t let this continue.”
Sharing a clip discussing the incident, the Girls Overheard page asked: “Drop a hidden camera somewhere or ditch her immediately?”
The video has racked up more than 84,000 views with social media users left shocked by the supposed friend’s antics.
“I would set up hidden cameras then get the proof you need and wait for the lies when questioned”, insisted one person.
Another grossed out social media user said: “Stealing leggings is like stealing knickers.”
A third urged: “She is not treating you like a best friend. Dead wood cut her free.”
And someone else advised: “I would set her up, cameras and a ‘gift’ she couldn’t not take! Then I’d report her to the police for theft, camera evidence, snake.”
Sadly, it doesn’t look like the light-fingered pal is an isolated case, as other women shared their own experiences.
One said: “This happened to me. Clothes, perfume and then a large sum of money. I’ve no idea how people can do this.”
“I’ve had this too”, another chimed in.
“Confront them they hate it, it’s down to a sense of entitlement.”
Meanwhile, a third revealed: “I had a friend who used to steal things from me.
“I let it lie until she stole a bottle of perfume, when I went to hers I found it and took it back.
“She came over a few days later and took it again. I just told her I knew what she was up to and to cut it out otherwise I’d tell our friends.”
And a fourth chimed in: “My best friend stole from me in school, literally stole my bra and numerous other things including my mum’s mascara from the bathroom cabinet. So awkward.”
