One Year On: Ronald J Gordon
20 February, 2024 marks the one-year anniversary of the incredibly sad passing of Ronald J Gordon.
A man who simply exuded enthusiasm, Ron’s passion for Hibernian FC and Scottish football was contagious. Ron and his family fell in love with the Football Club and the city of Edinburgh.
His goal at Hibs was simple; to build the club into the best version of itself to leave a lasting legacy.
A real visionary, Ron created a long-term plan for the Football Club, based on creating sustainable success on and off the pitch through improved commercial performance. He aimed to deliver consistent sporting success, a better match day experience for fans, and a Club rooted in its community. Ron wanted fans to be proud of their club. To achieve this, he invested in the Club’s infrastructure at Easter Road and HTC, immediately leaving his mark on Hibernian FC.
A great advocate of Scottish football, he used his position on the SPFL Board as a force for positive change. He was the spearhead in the Deloitte/SPFL Strategy Review and believed that by pulling everyone together, alongside statistics and evidence, they could make a real difference in Scotland.
Following the devastating news a year ago today, the Gordon Family – Kit, Ian, and Colin – have had the Club at the forefront of their minds, more determined than ever to see this through his great plans. Following his inspiring blueprint, they have continued in pursuit of achieving his goals. Increasing the Club’s playing budget and developing the Club’s infrastructure to improve high-performance at HTC remain major priorities. Their commitment to improving the matchday experience at Easter Road is ongoing.
From personally financing the Famous Five Stand redevelopment that sees the ‘Behind The Goals’ sports bar return, to the introduction of the rail-seating in the lower tier of that stand, the family’s ambition is clear – to advance Ron’s legacy.
Ron is dearly missed by everyone at the Football Club and will always be remembered for the impact he made.
Always In Our Hearts. Your Legacy Lives On.
RIP Ronald J Gordon (August 1954 - February 2023) “A bonny Fechter”
