One person rescued from New Britain house fire, taken to hospital

One person was taken to the hospital Wednesday after being rescued from a house fire in New Britain.

Firefighters responded to a home on Dover Road just after 1 p.m. and found heavy fire on the first floor of the structure and smoke billowing throughout, according to the New Britain Fire Department.

Fire crews discovered one victim being tended to by civilians outside the home and received the report that a second person was trapped inside on the second floor, fire officials said.

Crews worked to knock down the blaze and rescue the trapped victim, officials said. The occupant of the home was taken to an area hospital for treatment, according to fire officials. The victim’s condition remains unclear.

The fire was knocked down just before 2:15 p.m.

The blaze prompted mutual aid from the West Hartford, Bristol and Hartford Fire Departments.

The New Britain Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.

The American Red Cross has been contacted to assist the residents of the home.
