Speeding Amtrak Train Slices Amazon Delivery Truck in Half in Terrifying Video

0

Jaw-dropping dashcam footage has emerged of a harrowing accident in which an Amazon delivery driver had his van torn in half by a speeding train and miraculously survived.

Alexander Evans’ accident occurred on his 33rd birthday, just before Thanksgiving 2021, as he was coming around a blind turn across a railroad track in Ixonia, WI. The crossing has no safety systems in place to alert commuters to approaching trains.

Because he’s deaf in one ear, Evans didn’t hear the train beep its horn. He didn’t even realize he was in danger until it was too late, and he told WISN that he could only accelerate to get as far away from the train as possible. His plan miraculously worked, with the speeding train shearing his vehicle in half just behind the front seats. The accident was well-documented at the time, with news reports featuring unbelievable views of the wreckage.

Now, over two years after the terrifying incident, wild dashcam footage has emerged which sees the moment of impact from Evans’ cab. It shows the driver turning onto the tracks before seeing the train and quickly accelerating. Evans flinches as the locomotive passes through the back of his van, then shakes his head in disbelief as he realizes he’s safe.

At the time of the accident, Evans reiterated that he couldn’t believe he had survived the accident. “Yesterday I literally almost lost my life,” the husband and father of two wrote on Facebook on Nov. 22, 2021. “I’m honestly still in shock.”

In interviews, Evans pushed for some sort of light or signal to be installed at the crossing as a matter of public safety. A representative for the Town of Ixonia confirmed to Men’s Journal that there is still no signal at the crossing.

“There’s no way the town of Ixonia could afford to put a signal there,” the representative said. “And if we put a signal there, we have at least two, if not three, other intersections with the same kind of setup” that would also require signals, she explained.

The Town of Ixonia referred Men’s Journal to Canadian Pacific Railway (CPKC) for a more detailed explanation as to why no stops have been installed at the crossing, but CPKC did not immediately return a request for comment.
