AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Tuesday, an 18-year-old was sentenced on a murder charge in connection with an April 2023 fentanyl overdose death.
According to the Hays County Criminal District Attorney’s office, 18-year-old Jaquell Desean Ray will serve 10 years in prison following a plea agreement.
Officials said following an overdose death in the county, investigators determined Ray delivered pills containing fentanyl that caused the death. Investigators also determined Ray was aware he was selling fentanyl, as well as the dangers associated with fentanyl, before delivering it to the victim.
According to the district attorney’s office, Ray was out on bond from a 2022 fentanyl-dealing arrest when he sold the fatal dose.
