Broadband cables block Shawnee home's sewage line
SHAWNEE, Okla. (KFOR) - A man is fighting to pay for his sewage line blockage at his Shawnee home after he says he found broadband cables running through it last week.
David Bade and his wife nearly lost their home in last year's Shawnee tornado. The two rebuilt it but might also have to rebuild parts of their sewage line.
"For a whole year, it was stopping things and backing it all up into the house," said Bade. "I have a fiber optic cable drilled right through the center of my sewer line under the city street."
Bade said that the whole time the blockage was happening, it would fill out into the home - upwards of two inches tall.
He said a plumber came by and used a camera to find the problem. The plumber told him that it seemed to be coming from a line put in by the broadband company called Vyve.
On his property located off Market Street, you can see the places marked where the line seemed to go through. In big letters was the name of the company "Vyve."
Bade said that it would end up costing thousands of dollars between fixing it and getting the permits.
"The last backup we had in our house was two weeks ago and it was unbelievable, we have to get this fixed now," said Bade.
There are several flags throughout the street near Bade that either say Vyve Broadband or AT&T.
KFOR reached out to Vyve by email Wednesday morning and called several times in the afternoon but did not hear back.
"I would like to see them pay for the repair which I hope will happen Friday and I'm paying for it out of pocket," said Bade.
