Homeowner loses everything in house fire
ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- Laura Roberts has called the same house home since she was five years old. She says she has now lost everything after the house caught fire Wednesday afternoon.
"I panicked, Roberts said. "I was with my daughter, I panicked in the car, and I cried. I wasn't ready for that luckily my neighbor done see it."
Robert Living, who has been Roberts's neighbor for five years, immediately called 911 when he saw smoke billowing from the home on George Dupuis Rd.
"I smelled it. I saw the smoke coming from the top of the roof and knew something was on fire," said Living.
Living says he and the rest of the community will help support Roberts.
As of now, the cause of the fire is still unknown. Roberts says she is thankful to everyone who responded to help put out the fire as soon as possible.
