Man arrested in Philadelphia after fatal shooting in Edgewood bar

A man was arrested in Philadelphia in connection with a fatal shooting last weekend in a busy bar and restaurant in Edgewood, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Deputies responded around 12:10 a.m. Saturday to a shooting at D&M’s Tiki Bar and Crab Deck on the 2200 block of Pulaski Highway, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies found Dajuan Kyree Simmons, 24, in the restaurant suffering from gunshot wounds and began performing lifesaving measures before medics took over. Simmons was taken to the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, where he was declared dead, the sheriff’s office said.

There were “several patrons and witnesses inside” the restaurant when Simmons was shot, sheriff’s office spokesperson Robert Royster said.

A 33-year-old man was arrested in Philadelphia on Monday by the Philadelphia Police Department and isawaiting extradition to Harford County, and the suspect is charged with second-degree murder and first- and second-degree assault as well as other crimes, the sheriff’s office said.

“[Sheriff Jeff Gahler] wants to assure the community this was not a random crime, that the parties involved were known to each other and there is no ongoing threat to public safety,” the sheriff’s office said on social media.
