Ben Stokes fails to recognize the Ranchi pitch: “This is unlike anything I’ve ever seen”
The England camp is considering the Ranchi pitch. The skipper Ben Stokes and vice-captain Ollie Pope have similar opinions over the 22 yards for the fourth Test between England and India. It is going to turn, but the main questions on the tourists’ minds are how much and how quickly. This series’ pitches haven’t exactly been head-turners. Hyderabad gave the spinners the most, but it was still playable.
India quickly realised that surfaces with too much turn will only be useful for England’s young spinners. Following a loss in the first Test, the batting surfaces in Visakhapatnam and Rajkot improved significantly, and as the game went on, the pitches began to break, allowing India’s spinners to enter the fray. The outcomes came next.

To do England’s honor. They have made every effort to avoid talking about pitches during this series. However, it seemed all but certain that the hosts would shift their position given that Jasprit Bumrah would be out for the crucial fourth match. And they already have, if Stokes’ observation is accurate.
Stokes said he had never seen a pitch like the Ranchi pitch for the fourth Test. He is therefore unsure of how it will play. According to him, the pitch appears greenish from a distance, but up close, it is cracked. “Did you think it looked interesting? I’m not sure. Not much can be said by me. Stokes responded, “I have no idea how it might play; I’ve never seen anything like that before. I don’t know.” “I have no idea what might occur.
It’s also possible that the England skipper will bowl for the first time during the series.
“It just looked different from what I am used to seeing, especially out in India, if you looked down one side of opposite ends.” Up in the changing rooms, it was verdant and lush, but once you stepped outside, the scene changed. Quite brittle, black, and cracked throughout.”
There are a lot of cracks:Ollie Pope on Ranchi pitch
Pope also brought attention to the pitch’s dual appearance. As of right now, it appears like the right-hander is batting from outside his off-stump, while the left-hander is hitting from this end. It appears to be down the wicket; one side appears to be rather plated, while the other appears to have a decent wicket.”
Pope, on the other hand, was certain that the batters would not have it easy, unlike Stokes. “There are several cracks. They’ve just wetted it too, which usually dries it up, and it’s really platey. Right now, it doesn’t exactly appear to be a belting wicket. It appears to be in fine shape on one side and has several plate-like cracks on the other. That’s the current way we perceive it. After the Indian team has examined the wicket tomorrow, I believe we will wait and see before making a decision.”
