Background
With the exception of 2020, Blair Castle International Horse Trials has run every year since 1989, before which there was a national competition held annually since 1977.
There are now regularly 45,000 visitors to the event over the week, with more than 200 trade-stands and 1,800 horses. For 2024 there will be five international eventing classes, up to CCI4*-L, as well as BE90 and BE100 national and Scottish Championship classes. There are also full schedules of showing and show jumping classes in four additional arenas.
The Role
The role will report to the Assistant Director in the day-to-day planning & management of the event. The Organiser will be responsible for ensuring specific aspects of the event delivery and organisation are completed on time.
The role includes working on every aspect of the event including but not limited to, liaising with competitors, sponsors and traders to the event, other external members of the Trials Team and the wider estate and working to strict deadlines. The Role is largely based in the office at Blair Castle, but site work is required, especially around the time of the event. Training for all aspects of the role will be given, but previous experience as a competitor at any level, or as an event volunteer would be advantageous.
The role may suit a student looking for more work experience during their summer vacation.
Required Skills and Experience
- Have a sound knowledge of equestrian sport
- Have a keen eye for detail
- Work as a team member
- A high level of multi-tasking, forward planning skills and an ability to move from different tasks as required.
- Hands-on approach
- Have vision to assist with the delivery of a world class event
- To be prepared to work long and unsociable hours
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Sound knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Quad bike ticket
- Trailer towing licence
This role will be demanding on time, patience and sleep; however, it will ultimately be highly rewarding.
