I’m a cruise ship singer – the horrifying reason they throw ice cream parties and it might put you off your next sail
GETTING on a cruise can make you feel like you’re living a life of luxury – but below deck is another story.
Taking to social media, American singer and former-cruise ship entertainer Dara Tucker revealed the horrifying truth behind ice cream parties.
Dara replied to a question from someone wondering if extra ice cream available to charter guests meant they needed to freezer space for a body, and it seems they were correct.
She confirmed that this was often the case on cruise ships if the morgue ran out of room.
“Okay, this is unfortunately often true,” she explained.
“If the crew suddenly makes a bunch of ice cream available to the passengers ‘free ice cream party!’ it is often because more people have died on the ship than they have room for in the morgue.
So the next time you get offered some free ice cream onboard a cruise you might want to think again.
Dara continued: “I don’t know why when I talk about cruise ship stuff, stuff gets morbid so quickly.
“But this is true, I was a singer on a cruise ship about ten years ago and I lived on a ship in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean for about six months.
“Thankfully, we didn’t have to deal with this kind of stuff,” she added, however she knew other cruise ship workers who did.
If more than seven people died on that particular ship, they would have to start moving bodies to the freezer.

She claimed that around four to ten people would die on every cruise, which makes sense considering a lot of senior people love to go boating.
Considering the cruise would carry around 3,000 people – four to ten people dying doesn’t seem impossible.
Dara added: “The morgue, I believe they said held about seven people and if more than seven people died on that particular ship, they would have to start moving bodies to the freezer.
“Which meant they had to make room in the freezer, so they would have to take out a lot of the ice cream and other frozen goods in order to make room for the extra frozen bodies.
“So when that happened… Ice cream party!”
Dara’s explanation of a random ice cream party has left people horrified – and many claimed it has put them off for good now.
The clip posted to her TikTok account @darastarrtucker soon went viral with over 740k views and 65k likes.
People were quick to share their thoughts in the comments section.
