- 32,653 at 3:35 AM Central Time
- 25,047 at 4:35 AM Central Time
By 7 a.m., there were more than 70,000 outage reports.
Verizon and T-Mobile users also reported outages.
KXAN staff, along with many others online, report a loss of cellular signal – seeing an SOS message instead of bars.
KXAN reached out to AT&T to find out what's going on and we're waiting to hear back.
According to Reuters, Downdector listed reports of more than 800 service outages of U.S. wireless carriers Verizon and T-Mobile.
Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T did not immediately reply to Reuters’ requests for comment.
We've also reached out to Austin officials to see if the outages are impacting them or their responses.
According to 911.gov, all wireless phones can call 911, even if they don't have service from a specific carrier. However, it says that without service, the location of the cell phone is not properly delivered to the call center, so if you call, it's important you communicate where you are. The website says that without service, 911 call-takers can not call the phone back either.
University of Texas Police said on social media that they're monitoring the issue impacting customers making and receiving calls, including 911.
UTPD also noted that people can use any UTPD emergency call box located along campus walkways, inside Celebrated Entrances and in and around parking garages and an officer will immediately respond. If you have wifi, you can message UTPD on the LiveSafe app for police assistance.
