BCCI Drops Bombshell: Only First 15 Days of IPL Schedule Released! When to expect remaining fixtures?
On February 23, the schedule for the first fifteen days of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024 was revealed. The 17th season of the league will begin on March 22 with the opening game pitting the defending champion Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, against Royal Challengers Bangalore. But for non-cricketing reasons, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has only released the schedule for the first 21 matches.
India’s General Elections in 2024 will fall on the same dates as the IPL. In the middle of March, the Election Commission is anticipated to provide the nationwide polling dates. Before deciding on the remaining dates for the IPL schedule, the BCCI intends to wait for these dates.

The body of Cricket Directors of India (BCCI) has not done this before; during the 2019 Indian General Elections, which were held in seven phases, the body only revealed the timetable for the first two weeks.
They postponed revealing the remaining schedule so they could evaluate how the elections could affect the nation’s ability to host IPL matches. In the end, the whole Indian Premier League, which ran from March 23 to May 12, was held in the nation.
Despite the upcoming General Elections, there are currently no plans to move the event.
For players hoping to make the 2024 T20 World Cup roster, this year’s IPL is crucial because their results in the league will affect the selection process for the ICC tournament later in the year. All of the national selectors would be in attendance at the several IPL venues to see the performances, according to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.
Shah also revealed earlier this month that Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team in the Twenty20 World Cup, which will create intriguing dynamics within the Mumbai Indians team.
In December of last year, the team named Hardik Pandya as its new captain for the upcoming season, taking Rohit’s place. The all-rounder had captained the Indian T20I team that entire year, but he hasn’t played since November 2023 because of an injury.In the meantime, Rohit returned to the Indian Twenty20 cricket team for the series against Afghanistan last month.
