KATE Middleton is recovering from her surgery, and has been treated to some “fabulous” gifts and “delicious” hampers from doting friends, according to a royal expert.

The Princess of Wales, 42, is “recovering well” at home after her planned abdominal surgery on January 16.

Kate spent 13 days recovering at the private London Clinic before heading home – and she is unlikely to be seen carrying out any frontline duties until after Easter.

Speaking to OK! , former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond explained: “I’m sure these old friends would know exactly how to keep Kate’s spirits up after such major surgery.

“They have probably pampered her with fabulous gifts of luxurious spa products and hampers of delicious goodies to tempt her tastebuds.

“They know what she might like to watch on TV or to read, and may have been sending recommendations and encouraging her to rest and take the time out she needs.”

In a clear sign of her improvement, the Princess joined William and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis on a half-term trip holiday on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

Jennie added that their 10-bedroom country home, Anmer Hall, would have been the perfect place for Kate to recover.

She added: “Windsor is lovely, and they have a beautiful house, of course. But it’s also on the Heathrow flight path and that can be very intrusive. William and Kate find all they want as a family in the wide open spaces that Norfolk offers.”

A pal told the Daily Mail: “Catherine is recovering well.

“She was looking forward to a change of scene and will be able to take it easy in Norfolk while the children let off steam with William.”

She added that it was an “encouraging” sign that Kate was well enough to make the trip to Sandringham.

While Kate is understandably “taking it easy”, there are plenty of activities for their kids – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five – to enjoy with Prince William.

Editor of Majesty Magazine, Ingrid Seward told Fabulous: “They [William and the kids] can take advantage of everything Sandringham has to offer, including wonderful beaches and miles of paths through the estate to ride on ponies or bikes.

“They also have a tennis court and every amenity they can possibly have including lots of local friends.”

Kate previously said her kids love going spider-hunting and also raise chickens at Anmer Hall.

The King is also recovering in Norfolk following his cancer diagnosis.

The monarch was admitted to The London Clinic on January 26 to undergo the operation and his stay was extended by 24 hours.

As the news broke, Prince Harry jetted 5,000 miles to be by his father’s side, and saw him for a 30-minute meeting, before flying home.

A “separate issue of concern was noted” during his corrective prostate surgery – and further tests revealed the presence of cancer.

In their statement a Palace spokesman stated: “Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.”

In the meantime, Prince William and Queen Camilla have taken the lead and stepped up to help with royal duties.
