Public satisfaction with 12 of 29 aspects of US declines during Biden presidency: Gallup
Public satisfaction with 12 aspects of life in the United States has declined during President Biden’s time in the White House, according to a new poll.
The Gallup poll found that Americans’ satisfaction in 12 out of 29 areas declined during Biden’s presidency. The decline in satisfaction was most prominent with the country’s military strength and preparedness, its immigration level, its energy policies and its laws or policies on guns, the poll found.
The Gallup poll found that satisfaction with the nation’s military strength dropped 12 percentage points between January 2021 and January 2024. Satisfaction with immigration levels, energy policies and gun laws or polices each dropped 11 percentage points in the same period.
Satisfaction with the amount Americans pay in federal taxes and the quality of medical care in the U.S. dropped by 9 points each. Satisfaction with abortion polices dropped 8 points and that with the way income and wealth are distributed in the U.S. and the state of the nation’s economy each dropped 7 points.
Gallup noted that some areas where Americans’ satisfaction has remained steady include the overall quality of life, policies to reduce crime, security from terrorism and the availability of affordable health care.
Public satisfaction in five areas increased since January 2021. The Gallup poll found Americans were more satisfied in 2024 with the position of Black Americans and other racial minority people, the size and power of the federal government, the state of race relations, how well the government system works and the moral and ethical climate.
The survey was conducted Jan. 2-22 among 1,011 adults and has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
