I’m a home pro – how to hack your way to make a smaller bedroom feel bigger & all you need is paint

DO you have a tiny bedroom in your house that doesn’t get the love it deserves?

An interior expert has revealed the exact hack you should do if you want to make a box room feel instantly bigger – and all you need is paint.

Talented DIY fan Grace uploaded a video sharing her step-by-step advice, and thankfully it seemed easy to copy.

On her @graceful_designs_diy account, she said: “How can you use design to make a tiny bedroom feel bigger?

“I’m gonna show you how with only three buckets of paint.”

Grace claimed it is a “myth” that painting a ceiling makes a room feel smaller – and it can be the opposite.

She explained: “This isn’t the case if you also paint the back wall of a room.

“That way your eye is drawn back and up, creating the illusion that a small room is larger and longer.”

Grace decided to put her advice into practise in a small room in her flat, and continued: “This is my tiny apartment bedroom that really only has space for a bed.

“We haven’t decorated it at all. So it’s giving jail cell.”

Her first tip to making a small space feel bigger is to “trick the eye.”

Grace explained: “I needed to draw the eye to the back and top of the room to make it feel elongated.

“So I decided to do a stripe on the back of the wall and also paint the ceiling.

“We use the laser level to establish the first line, and they use the tape itself to establish an even marking between each stripe.

“Then we started painting the burgundy, and I had a mental breakdown because it looked like I just killed somebody and spread their blood all over the walls.“

Thankfully it all came together once she started painting the ceiling and she saw her visual come to life.

She then added some finishing touches, such as curtains to hide her wardrobe.

Grace showed off the very stylish end result, and said: “Here’s a reminder of where we started and what my bedroom looks like now.

“I cannot believe this is my bedroom. I love it so much.

“Did it work? Does the room look bigger to you, too?”

Over 13,000 people have liked her video, with many people seeming to be a fan of her paint hack.

One said: “I had my doubts but it really is lovely. Nice work.”

Another added: “This is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I’m renovating a small abandoned home & the bedroom is THIS. Thank you so much.”

DIY tips and hacks

A third commented: “Beautiful! It looks Way bigger!!”

Meanwhile, one joked: “Wanted to be a hater but this looks amazing.”

Kate, the founder of Be Brave Interiors, knows it’s about feeling like you’ve got more space – rather than forking out on an expensive extension to get it.

The interior designer from Leeds, Yorkshire, said: “If you haven’t got enough space in your house, doing one or two little things can make a big difference to how you feel.

“And it is to do with a feeling.”

One of her first tips is to consider where you’ve put your curtain poles

She suggests that moving them nearer to the ceiling can make a big difference, and helps give the illusion of a larger space.

Another way to make a room feel larger is to add mirrors, as this will help bounce the light around.

To do this, hang them on opposite doors and windows.

Kate also suggests finding dual-purpose items, as these will help limit the amount of furniture you need and ultimately free up space.

She added: “So you might have a coffee table and you might have a poof, but actually that could be the same thing.”

She only used paint for the job and it didn’t take her long
