LSU student accused of uploading child porn with university-issued email
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- A Louisiana State University student accused of uploading child porn using his university-issued email was arrested and charged, authorities said.
An investigation began on Jan. 5 after the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crime Unit got a tip about two videos/images containing child sex abuse material, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said.
Instagram reported that an account uploaded child sex abuse material on Dec. 31, 2023. Investigators contacted an LSU Police Department detective after learning that an IP address was linked to the university.
According to an affidavit, the suspect, Jahi Palmer-Davis, 20, of Baton Rouge, was identified as a current LSU student.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said two images were found in the Instagram search warrant return along with conversations between Palmer-Davis and others about trading and selling videos of child sexual abuse material.
Arrest documents said Palmer-Davis told a user, who identified themselves as a 14-year-old, where they could post nudes online.
Investigators confirmed that the IP address used to upload images/videos is registered to Louisiana State University using Palmer-Davis' student email address on three different dates.
Palmer-Davis was charged with two counts of pornography involving juveniles and two counts of unauthorized use of a wireless router system. Jail records show he was booked on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
