SPECIAL ADVISER HOSTS COALITION OF CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS
In its unrelentless efforts to fulfil the mandate of inclusiveness in governance, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Tajudeen Afolabi has held a meeting with the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSO).
Welcoming officials of the coalition to the meeting held recently at the Conference Room of the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Alausa, Ikeja, Afolabi said that one of the mandates of the Office is to bridge the communication gap between the Government and civil Societies while delivering the promises made by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to Lagosians.
He added that there is a need to engage the citizens of Lagos State, especially at this time and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration is ready to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure that every Lagosian can enjoy dividends of good governance.
He also added that Mr. Governor is in tune with the challenges of Lagosians at this period and he is not resting on his oars in bringing up various policies that will help alleviate the burdens being imposed by the fuel subsidy removal.
Pledging the Lagos State Government’s unwavering support to the coalition, Afolabi said that there is a need to have a well-represented advisory committee that will involve citizens and religious leaders, adding it is also important to hold a stakeholders meeting which will be aimed at fostering dialogue, collaboration and mutual understanding between the Lagos State Government and Civil Society Organisations (CSO).
Appreciating the Special Adviser, the Convener of the group, Mr. Razaq Olokoba said it is pertinent to do everything possible to ensure that the citizenry understands government policies, hence the reason the society is working hand-in-hand with the government.
While appreciating the Lagos State Government, Olokoba said that it is an act of irresponsibility to see nothing good in government because Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, through his open-door policy, was able to surmount two major crises.
“The method and strategy that Mr. Governor employed to nip in the bud the COVID-19 Pandemic and his fatherly attitude exhibited to always make sure nothing rocks the boat of Lagos has impressed Lagosians and we appreciate him on behalf of Lagosians”, he added.
Olokoba, therefore, appealed to the Special Adviser to give the coalition the roadmap needed to hit the ground running for a good collaboration between the Lagos State Government and the Coalition.
Also present at the event were the Co-Conveners of the society and the Management and Staff of the Office.
