Humor best antidote to Trump’s poisonous hypocrisy | READER COMMENTARY
Neil A. Grauer’s recent commentary, “Three words for protesters to put Trump in his place: pants on fire!” (Feb. 20), offers a poignant tribute to Mark Twain’s advice to use laughter as a weapon against the hypocrisies of populism and the lies of snake-oil salesmen like Donald Trump. It also recalls the best of Henry Louis Mencken, the “Sage of Baltimore,” who employed satire and sarcasm to puncture the pomposity of puerile politicians.
MAGA Trumpites will scream and holler. But they should remember that the humorless Trump tried to overthrow the government of the United States claiming the election was stolen, despite the fact that 60 of 61 of his legal challenges to the 2020 election were rejected by American courts, many by Trump-appointed judges.
