Mark your calendar: Portland weeks away from 7 p.m. sunsets
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The days are growing longer and Daylight Saving Time is weeks away, which means Portland will soon see sunsets at 7 p.m. and later.
According to the National Weather Service, Portland’s first 7 p.m. sunset of the season comes on March 10, when we set our clocks back an hour for daylight saving time.
“By now, many have noticed that we’re having more light in the late afternoons,” Portland’s National Weather Service office stated Thursday. “Well, it's true. We are fast extending the amount of daylight each day, roughly by about 1 to 2 minutes per day. [It] won't be long before sunsets are after 7 p.m.”
The days will continue to grow longer as Portland heads into spring and summer. The first day of spring is on March 19 and the first 8 p.m. sunset will occur on April 17. Sunsets will start as late as 9 p.m. by June 11.
