I was quoted £31,506 to renovate my kitchen but did it myself with DIY for just £2,600 – it only took 17 days
IT’S no secret that renovating your kitchen can cost a fortune, so when one woman took things into her own hands.
Savanna was quoted a whopping £31,506 to upgrade her kitchen, but ended up saving herself over £28,828 DIY-ing it with her husband.
Although there wasn’t much wrong with the old kitchen, it did look a tad outdated, and the brown wooden cupboards didn’t do the space any favours.
The drab design made the open plan kitchen seem dark and dingey – despite it actually being a good sized space.
So, the duo got to work renovating it and started by watching “a few YouTube videos” to learn exactly what to do.
“It was on a budget so we cut costs where we could,” Savanna noted on TikTok.
One of the ways they saved cash was by spray painting their old white window frames rather than replacing them entirely.
You’d never know though, and the finished window frames looked totally professional – not to mention sleek and modern.
“We did run into some minor plumbing issues but we thankfully were able to fix it without a professional,” the homeowner added.
They also added in some posh design elements, like a built-in coffee bar.
Out of all the new skills the pair picked up, laying the tiles was the most tricky.
“It was messy and time consuming,” they notes, but their patience paid off in the end.
The project took the couple 17 days of hard work all in all, but the savings speak for themselves.
Rather than forking out the £31,506, they only paid £2,678 – that’s a huge saving of £28,828.
The finished kitchen looked mega expensive, despite all their savings.
They replaced the old wooden cabinets with posh white ones with gold hardware.

And the cluttered overhead cabinets were replaced with open shelving to display vases and plants.
The kitchen island got a bit of a face lift too with white subway-style tiles to match the walls.
Savanna revealed the most expensive part of the renovation was the new counter tops, which cost £1,340.
“We had some tools already which helped us save money,” she added.
Fellow DIY fans were impressed with the epic transformation and couldn’t believe the couple managed to save so much money.
