Woman charged with manslaughter after fatal Marine Drive crash
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A woman has been charged with manslaughter for her involvement in a two-car crash near Portland International Airport, which claimed the life of another woman late Friday night, authorities say.
Just before 11:30 p.m., Portland police officers responded to a report of the crash in the 7000 block of Northeast Marine Drive.
On arrival, officers and EMS found the the driver of one of the vehicles dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, identified by police as 22-year-old Maria Moncada, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and officers reported no passengers in either of the vehicles.
For the duration of the investigation, Northeast Marine Drive was closed in both directions between Northeast 33rd Avenue and Northeast 122nd Avenue and reopened at around 5:45 a.m. Saturday.
Officials say the investigation revealed that Moncada was speeding westbound in a 2013 BMW 3-series on Northeast Marine Drive when she left her lane and crashed into the back of a 2015 Honda Fit that was stopped on the shoulder. She is believed to have been intoxicated at the time, authorities say.
After her release from the hospital, Moncada was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of first-degree manslaughter, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (Alcohol) and Reckless Driving.
The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
