Crew receive championship rings before season opener
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- For the third time, members of the Columbus Crew are adding some championship bling to their wardrobe.
Before Saturday's season opener against Atlanta United, Crew players, coaches and club leaders each received a 10-karat yellow gold, diamond-studded championship ring to commemorate the club's 2023 Major League Soccer Cup title.
The ring, designed by the Jostens jewelry company, celebrates the uniqueness of the Crew's championship season, including "Impossible is an option" -- a quote by Crew Head Coach Wilfried Nancy -- and the date of the MLS Cup title game, 12-9-23, engraved on the outside palm of the ring. In addition, each player will have their names and jersey numbers included on their individual ring.
Each ring has approximately 250 diamonds.
“We appreciate Jostens’ care, thoughtfulness and craftsmanship to help design a ring that is fitting for the Crew’s incredible story in 2023 and winning our Club’s third MLS championship,” Crew Vice President of Soccer Administration and Operations Jaime McMillan said in a statement.
The Crew secured its third championship with a 2-1 win over Los Angeles FC.
Fans interested in owning their own version of the ring can find it by clicking here. Warning, though: there are 96 available, each costing $10,000. Jostens, however, is offering more affordable jewelry options for fans to celebrate the championship.
The Crew won its season opener, beating Atlanta 1-0.
