Mature makeup mistakes that will accentuate wrinkles and droop your face – do my methods instead for a youthful glow
HOW you apply your makeup can completely transform the shape of your face.
A beauty fan has shared her tips for creating a youthful glow in your 40s.
In her video, Carole Rees (@carolerees) showed her followers a side-by-side comparison of her makeup hacks alongside the common mistakes that age your face.
For her first step, the TikToker highlighted that less is more when it comes to your beauty routine.
She applied this logic to one side of her face while demonstrating what not to do on the other.
“If you’re over 40 and you’ve got more mature skin then thick layers are not going to look good on you because we’ve got those fine lines and wrinkles and it’s all going to soak in,” she explained.
“Don’t do a thick layer of foundation, instead, just do a light layer and blend that in.”
Carole pointed out that you want your complexion to still look like skin and not plastic.
Next, she showed her audience a similar light-handed technique for applying concealer around their eyes.
“Doing a thick layer of concealer is just going to accentuate those crow’s feet around your eyes,” Carole said.
“And when you smile, it’s going to cake, less is more.”
She also demonstrated the best way to sculpt your face with contour if you’re over 40.
“When it comes to contour, don’t draw the thick line underneath your cheekbone, it doesn’t work on the more mature skin,” Carole explained.
“Instead, do it higher up on top of your cheekbones, that’s going to give a more lifted illusion.”
She also applied contour along her jawline instead of under it, explaining that it gives a sharp finish rather than a square shape.
Next, Carole showed her viewers how to adapt their blush application for more mature skin.
“With blush, we were always told to smile and put your blusher on the apples of your cheek and blend,” she said.
“Don’t do that, instead, pop your blusher much higher up and blend upwards.
“What this is going to do is give you that lifted face whereas when you put it on the apple of your cheek the apple is going to fall from the tree and droop your face.”
She moved her face closer to the camera, pointing out the cakey finish on the don’t side of her face.
“That’s what happens when you’ve got aging skin and use too much product whereas on this side, where I used a smaller amount of product, it doesn’t look cakey or accentuate my fine lines,” she said.
Her followers shared their thoughts on the techniques in the comments section.
“Wow! Thank you for doing this and showing this so clearly,” wrote one viewer.
“Basically, the older you get the higher you go! Haha great tips, thank you!” said another TikTok user.
“Best makeup tutorial for us older ladies I’ve seen on here,” commented a third person.
