Yankees prospect Bryce Warrecker had fans in awe with a sweeper that broke 24 inches in his spring training debut
At times, it’s truly difficult to put into perspective just how good MLB pitchers are at their craft. For all the incredible pitchers we see in a big-league game, there are guys just hoping to make a minor-league squad with some unhittable stuff of their own.
Just look at what Yankees prospect Bryce Warrecker did on Sunday.
Warrecker — a 6-foot-8 pitcher out of Cal Poly — was a 20th-round pick in 2023 and nearly baseball’s Mr. Irrelevant. He hadn’t appeared in a minor-league game for the Yankees, but in a Grapefruit League matchup against the Phillies, Warrecker knew how to make a first impression.
He unleashed a sweeper that broke 24 inches in his first professional outing. Yeah, a full two feet of break.

In the five-pitch strikeout against Matt Kroon, Warrecker threw three sweepers with 14, 20 and 24 inches of horizontal break. And sure, it’s unlikely that Warrecker will make the big-league club out of camp, but it’s unreal that the 20th-round pick boasts that kind of movement as a baseline to work with for his development.
He only needed five pitches to have Yankees fans excited.
