Eclipse Minute: Is it likely to be cloudy in Buffalo for the total solar eclipse?
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Western New Yorkers are well accustomed to gray, cloudy weather throughout the winter and early spring, but just how likely will cloud cover be on April 8 during the total solar eclipse?
Signs point towards El Niño conditions lingering into April, and in those years, Buffalo has seen a 60-70 percent chance for cloudy conditions on the day of the eclipse, according to the climatology data from the National Weather Service.
Looking further into the potential conditions, there is a 20.9 percent chance for a mostly sunny to completely clear day and an 11.7 percent chance for partly cloudy weather, according to NOAA.
While cloud cover would prevent onlookers from seeing the sun being blocked, it would still get noticeably darker around the area during the varying times of totality.
For those keeping track, it was mostly sunny on April 8 last year.
