‘That’s the plan’ – Conor Gallagher sheds light on his future plans amid Spurs interest
Conor Gallagher has now said that he wants to be a big part of Chelsea’s future, admitting that he is loving life under Mauricio Pochettino.
The speculation linking Gallagher with a move to Tottenham continues to rumble on and it looks likely to continue until the summer unless the midfielder signs a new contract.
The 23-year-old enters the final year of his deal in June and it was reported by The Daily Mail two weeks ago that the Blues are reluctant to offer the player a new deal worth more than £150,000 per week.
Meanwhile, just a couple of days ago, Football Insider claimed that Tottenham continued to hold a concrete interest in the England international as they are aware that Chelsea need to sell players in the summer to to comply with Premier League financial rules.
The report pointed out that while Chelsea and the player’s entourage have held talks over a new deal, the West London club have not put any offer on the table for the midfielder.
Conor Gallagher wants to stay and play at Chelsea
Gallagher himself has now broken the silence on his future, explaining that he wants to be part of the project that is currently underway at Stamford Bridge.
The Chelsea academy graduate told Sky Sports: “We’ve got a really young squad, a lot of talent, a great manager, great coaches that just want the best for us. I really want to be a big part of it and hopefully get Chelsea back to where they belong.
“There’s another year-and-a-half left on my contract and I absolutely love playing under the manager. Playing almost every game has been incredible and that’s all I’ve ever wanted.
“Last season I was in and out of the team and it wasn’t as enjoyable for that reason and also not playing great when I was. I just want to keep playing as much as I can for Chelsea, keep trying to improve the club and try to be successful at Chelsea. That’s the plan for sure.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While it has always been clear that Gallagher is happy at Chelsea and Pochettino wants to keep him, the question that remains is whether the Blues heirarchy will hand the midfielder the type of contract he thinks he is worth.
There is no doubt that Tottenham and a few other Premier League clubs will be watching the situation closely and be ready to pounce in the summer if he does not sign a new deal before then.
